Engineer Nomad: Senior Software Engineer II

Senior software engineer builds and ships full-stack features across Rails backend and React frontend, owning technical decisions and code quality.

Senior Posted about 12 hours ago We Work Remotely — Programming
What this role involves

Headquarters: Denver CO
URL: https://nomadlease.com

About Nomad

Nomad is unlocking economic opportunity for everyone in the long-term rental community. We offer property owners guaranteed rent and peace of mind, while delivering a better rental experience for residents. Backed by leading investors, we're transforming a massive, fragmented market with technology that makes renting better for everyone involved.

About the Team

Nomad's Engineering team builds the platform that powers guaranteed rent, owner dashboards, resident experiences, and the operational tools that make our business run. We're a small, senior team that ships fast and owns our outcomes. You'll work alongside product, design, and ops to solve real problems in a massive, underserved market. We're entering a new phase of growth. This is a high-leverage moment to join.

About the Role

We're hiring a Senior Software Engineer to take on meaningful ownership of our platform and deliver features that directly impact the business. You'll work across the stack, make real technical decisions, and ship end-to-end. This is a role for someone who's moved past needing close direction. You see what needs to be done, you build it well, and you make the people around you better in the process.

In this role, you will:

  • Build and ship features across our Rails backend and Typescript+React frontend

  • Play a crucial role in bringing solid engineering principles into multiple legacy codebases

  • Own your work end-to-end; from technical design through implementation, testing, and deployment

  • Collaborate directly with product and design to refine requirements and deliver solutions that move business metrics

  • Write clean, well-tested code and contribute to improving our engineering standards

  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback that raises the quality bar

  • Identify and address technical debt, bugs, and performance issues proactively

  • Contribute to architectural discussions and help the team make sound technical decisions

Who you are

  • An experienced product engineer with strong systems thinking abilities; you should be comfortable asking questions and improving the ideas that shape product iteration as well as executing on product vision

  • Significant professional software engineering experience, with strong experience in Typescript+React, Ruby+Rails, and RDBMS (we use Postgre)

  • You have experience with modern testing philosophies and can actively improve test suites that are slow, nondeterministic, or need updated practices

  • Bonus: You have experience automating workflows, using Playwright, Slack bots, and other tooling

  • You've shipped meaningful features or systems and can point to work you owned and delivered

  • Solid technical fundamentals; you write clean code, think about edge cases, and care about quality

  • You introduce and discuss modern tooling and libraries that solve recurring problems in the codebase

  • You are relentless in pushing for simplified patterns in the code and you have examples of systems you've simplified.

  • You have built out tooling (CI/Editor) to enforce improved coding practices across a codebase and improve developer experience.

  • You have experience with writing component and e2e-level visual browser tests and know when to use each.

  • Comfortable working across the stack; you're not precious about frontend vs. backend

  • Strong collaborator who communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical teammates

  • Self-directed: You take initiative, manage your own work, and don't wait to be told what's next

  • Experience in a startup or high-growth environment preferred

  • You’re comfortable using AI coding tools when they speed up implementation, debugging, or test writing, but you don’t rely on them to replace engineering judgment.

Interview process

  1. Quick meeting with recruiter to discuss role and company

  2. Hiring manager interview

  3. (up to) 3 hour technical assessment where you'll work on a real problem that a Nomad engineer would own, building a feature.

  4. Discuss technical assessment with engineering and product

  5. Founder interview

Where you'll be

Remote within the continental United States. Denver-based candidates are preferred and are encouraged to work hybrid from our downtown office.

Engineer Staff Software Engineer at murmuration

Staff-level software engineer building civic engagement products and raising technical standards across the engineering organization.

Lead Posted about 21 hours ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

Who We Are

At Murmuration, we believe that America’s promise is shaped and reshaped by the best ideas and ideals of its communities, and the dreams of the people who believe in a better life for themselves, their families, and each other.

We help organizations build power in their communities in four key ways: we organize a network of values-aligned partners; we provide deep, data-driven insights into people, places, and perspectives; we develop tools that make organizing and engagement easy and more effective; and we offer services that strengthen our partners’ capacity to lead change in their communities.

We envision an America where every community has what it needs to help people lead healthy,

free, and dignified lives. We work to redesign the systems and structures we all depend on — how we learn, live, govern, and solve problems — so that they are just, equitable, resilient, and rooted in shared responsibility. By strengthening the ties that hold communities together, we aim for civic life defined by collective action and care, with effective leadership that truly represents everyone.

We are a collaborative, curious, and creative team of organizers, scientists, teachers, technologists, campaign veterans, and more who share the unwavering belief that we can use our gifts in service of transforming America — together.

We’ve built our team guided by the belief that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. And so we support each other relentlessly — rallying together to face challenges the same way we celebrate each other’s wins.

About the Position

Do you see yourself as a mission-driven engineer who believes that great products emerge from strong teams? Do you thrive in inclusive, thoughtful environments where engineers hold themselves to high standards of technical excellence, ownership, and impact at scale?

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to contribute to one of our most ambitious efforts: building a new product from the ground up while raising the bar for how our entire engineering organization works.

Murmuration builds technology that helps our partner organizations strengthen civic engagement and organize more effectively in their communities. Our products weave together engagement, outreach, demographic, and voter data with intuitive applications that help partners better understand and act within the communities they serve. Our team is intentionally multidisciplinary and partner-focused. We succeed together by aligning planning, execution, and learning across engineering, product, design, research, data, and partner success. We build complex, data-driven systems that need to work reliably during critical moments, scale as our partners grow, and remain understandable and maintainable as communities and their needs evolve.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will join the Explorer Team as we evolve the product

into general availability from its pilot implementation. Explorer is a data visualization product that facilitates political data exploration using interactive maps, charts, and exportable tables, supplemented by an NLP-powered search function.

On this small, close-knit team, you will establish the engineering patterns, operational foundations, and testing strategies needed to evolve Explorer into a secure, reliable, GA-ready platform. You and the team will build Explorer’s core platform and user experience, expanding a near-greenfield code base to design, build, and evolve secure backend services, interactive data visualizations, and responsive user interfaces. You will also produce high-quality documentation that improves knowledge sharing, onboarding, and the long-term maintainability of the product.

In addition to your Explorer work, you will serve as a staff engineer across multiple projects, applying your expertise to solving some of the organization’s most complex challenges.

This role is suited for a deeply experienced individual contributor whose technical judgment and engineering rigor raises the quality of deliverables across the entire organization. You excel in near-greenfield settings where product priorities and direction can shift rapidly. Your commitment to building inclusive, high-trust, high-performing teams is visible across the technology organization. And you believe, like we do, that how we build is just as important as  what we build.

Job Level: IC5

What You’ll Do

Drive to General Availability

  • Shape Explorer’s technical future: advise on technical priorities, dependencies, and complexity; propose and defend well-reasoned solutions with clear documentation of tradeoffs and alternatives;
  • Take a pilot implementation from limited release to general availability, including making early architectural decisions, validating technical assumptions, and iterating toward a scalable design;
  • Harden experimental systems for production readiness, including reliability, performance, observability, testing, and operational excellence;
  • Architect for the long term: design and build the systems and architectures that will serve Explorer for years, with scale, reliability, security, and maintainability as first-class concerns;
  • Improve and expand the existing code base: reinforce secure coding practices, identify vulnerabilities early, and treat data privacy and access control as first-class concerns;
  • Drive test strategy, proactively identify and address technical risks, and drive quality improvements at the team level; and
  • Reduce technical debt, improve system quality, and contribute to objectives that span the broader organization.

Elevate the Team

  • Resolve ambiguity, navigate requirements that are actively being shaped, and bring structure and clarity without waiting for perfect specs;
  • Establish best practices for test strategy, code quality, and system design; raise the technical bar across the organization through documentation, advocacy, and role modeling;
  • Mentor senior engineers and help emerging technical leads build the judgment, ownership, and skills to grow; lead technical discussions, drive design consensus, and model the standards you expect from others; and
  • Be like Ted Lasso: believe, build trust, and demonstrate kindness, empathy, optimism, curiosity, and vulnerability.

Lead Beyond Explorer

  • Set technical direction across teams beyond Explorer; own objectives that span multiple teams and align with division and organizational goals; drive the strategy, planning, decision-making, and execution needed to achieve them;
  • Lead significant initiatives spanning multiple teams and systems; align technical and non-technical stakeholders, communicate tradeoffs and risks clearly, and represent engineering in cross-organizational discussions and with product and leadership;
  • Champion secure coding practices at a systemic level, identify vulnerabilities across the product, and treat data privacy and access control as organization-wide concerns; and
  • Organize and lead incident response, involving the right people and delegating effectively; lead post-incident reviews including root cause analysis and clear prevention action items; follow through until learnings are shared and remediation is complete.

Technical Depth and Judgement

  • Deep, hands-on expertise across critical technical domains with the proven ability to lead system design, architectural patterns, and engineering best practices; your sound technical judgment shapes important decisions;
  • Experience with event-driven and asynchronous processing patterns; solid understanding of the tradeoffs among different event-driven architectures with the ability to defend one choice over the other;
  • Ability to reason across OLAP and OLTP data architectures and make sound design decisions for the systems that depend on them;
  • Comfort making sound decisions with imperfect information; able to design long-term architectures with scale, reliability, security, and maintainability as first-class concerns, and to clearly articulate tradeoffs and alternatives explored;
  • Ability to communicate and defend well-reasoned solutions through written documentation, sharing context, what alternatives were considered, and how conclusions were reached;
  • Be a proactive steward of technical quality, identifying and prioritizing technical debt, defining test strategy, and evaluating risk from bugs and architectural problems before they become blockers; and
  • Skill at debugging the most complex problems at any level of the stack; ability to drive effective post-incident reviews with clear timelines, root cause analysis, and actionable prevention plans.

Scope, Initiative, and Execution

  • Proven ability to lead technical strategy and execution for significant initiatives spanning multiple teams or systems, balancing quality, performance, and cost while keeping stakeholders aligned on tradeoffs and risks;
  • Proven experience in designing objectives aligned with division and organizational goals, anticipating technical challenges and proposing solutions before they become blockers;
  • Demonstrated experience in the estimation of large, cross-team projects with significant unknowns, including mitigation plans for resolving those unknowns, breaking work into milestones and iterations to reduce risk and deliver incremental value;
  • Proven strategies to involve the right people, delegate clearly, communicate consistently, and follow through as an owner until an objective is delivered; and
  • Ability to multiply team and engineering effectiveness through technical leadership, tooling, infrastructure, and process improvements.

Organizational Impact

  • A technical leader across multiple teams who can act without direct management responsibilities, influencing outcomes through role modeling, documentation, and advocacy rather than authority;
  • Demonstrated track record as a mentor to senior engineers with a proven ability to develop future technical leaders, building their judgment, ownership, and skills through 1:1 guidance and small-group knowledge sharing;
  • A driver of standards and best practices that raise the technical bar across the organization, creating processes that instill ownership behavior in others;
  • Ability to represent engineering effectively in cross-functional discussions, leading alignment across technical and non-technical stakeholders on complex, multi-team initiatives; and
  • A leader by example, proactively sharing context and learnings, building POCs or prototypes where most cost-effective, and creating the kind of high-trust, high-performing team culture that makes everyone better.

What You Bring to the Table

Foundations

  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated full-stack fluency and a track record of delivering in production across a variety of languages and technology stacks;
  • Experience taking a product from beta to general availability, navigating the operational, quality, and cross-functional demands of a production launch;
  • Experience driving secure coding practices, data privacy principles, and access control patterns as applied in production systems;
  • A test-driven mindset with experience writing, maintaining, and driving test strategy at the team or product level;
  • A track record of effective collaboration with product, data science, and R&D teams, bridging technical and domain-specific perspectives across disciplines.

Data

  • Solid foundation in relational databases, including PostgreSQL, writing fluent SQL, designing schemas, and reasoning about migrations and query performance;
  • Experience with analytical or columnar datastores (e.g., Apache Pinot, ClickHouse, BigQuery, etc.);
  • Experience working with modern data warehousing and transformation workflows powered by Snowflake and dbt;
  • Experience with data pipeline orchestration tools such as Dagster or Airflow with an understanding of scheduling, dependency management, and pipeline reliability;
  • Working knowledge of time series data modeling and its applications;
  • Experience with caching layers such as Redis and the ability to drive decisions about caching strategy as part of system design.

Infrastructure and Observability

  • Deep experience with cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, and production-grade software at scale; production experience with AWS, including services for compute, storage, and observability;
  • Proficiency with Docker, Make, or similar build tools, as well as environment scripting;
  • Direct experience with observability tooling: logging, metrics, and tracing using tools such as Datadog, New Relic, Prometheus, or Grafana.

Security

  • Experience driving secure coding practices, data privacy principles, and access control patterns as applied in production systems.

Emerging and Specialized

  • Hands-on experience integrating LLM or AI APIs (e.g., OpenAI) into production applications, including working with embeddings, retrieval, or natural language interfaces;
  • Experience with geospatial or map-based data visualization and related JavaScript libraries.

Nice to Haves

  • Familiarity with Voter File Data;
  • Experience with or interest in political data;
  • Background in political tech, civic tech, advocacy, or mission-driven organizations; and/or
  • Experience applying AI/ML techniques to voter or political data.

At NiCE, we don’t limit our challenges. We challenge our limits. Always. We’re ambitious. We’re game changers. And we played to win. We set the highest standards and executed beyond them. And if you’re like us, we can offer you the ultimate career opportunity that will light a fire within you.

So, what’s the role all about?

NiCE enables organizations to address today’s consumer and employee expectations by delivering effortless, consistent, and personalized digital-first experiences with CXone, the world’s leading cloud customer experience platform.

The CSA team is dedicated to developing groundbreaking AI products that are transforming the industry. We promote a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, and the adoption of advanced technologies at a scale.

We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our CSA Infrastructure team. In this role, you will own and evolve the CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, observability, and operational excellence of our analytics and AI services, working closely with development, QA, security, and product teams.

How will you make an impact?

  • Design, operate, and evolve cloud infrastructure on AWS, ensuring high availability, security, scalability, and cost efficiency
  • Drive Infrastructure-as-Code quality and consistency across multiple environments (dev, test, staging, production) and services
  • Own and improve CI/CD pipelines end-to-end — from source control to automated build, test, security scanning, quality gates, and multi-environment deployment
  • Lead troubleshooting of complex production issues and drive root-cause analysis, feeding learnings back into runbooks and automation
  • Build and improve observability — dashboards, metrics, alerting, log aggregation, and SLO/SLI definitions for production services
  • Champion security and compliance — least-privilege access, secrets management, encryption, vulnerability remediation, and multi-tenant isolation
  • Manage release processes, environment promotion, and cross-service dependency tracking
  • Drive cost optimization and FinOps practices across cloud workloads
  • Mentor engineers on cloud and DevOps practices, and influence architecture and best practices across teams
  • Continuously evaluate and adopt new tools, technologies, and AI-driven automation to improve developer experience, reliability, and deployment velocity

Have you got what it takes?

  • BSc in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as a DevOps Engineer or in a similar role
  • Strong expertise with AWS services — compute (Lambda, ECS/Fargate, EC2), storage (S3), networking (VPC, API Gateway, Route53), data services, IAM, KMS, CloudWatch, and Secrets Manager (Azure experience is an advantage)
  • Strong programming and scripting skills in Python — production experience writing automation, tooling, and Infrastructure-as-Code, not just consuming libraries
  • Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code — AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform; comfortable with multi-account / multi-region deployments
  • Strong experience designing and operating CI/CD platforms — Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar; Groovy scripting is a plus
  • Hands-on with containers and Docker — authoring efficient multi-stage Dockerfiles, image scanning, and registry hygiene
  • Solid understanding of cloud-native architectures, serverless workloads, and distributed systems
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability platforms — CloudWatch, Grafana, Prometheus, or equivalent
  • Solid Linux experience — system troubleshooting, performance tuning, and operational best practices
  • Strong understanding of security, encryption, and compliance — IAM policy authoring, key management, secrets handling, and tenant isolation patterns
  • Familiarity with code quality and security tooling in CI pipelines — SonarQube, Black Duck, or equivalent
  • Experience supporting both managed services and microservice-based applications in production

You will have an advantage if you also have:

  • Experience operating cloud-based data and analytics workloads — data lakes, query engines, streaming pipelines, or data warehouses
  • Working knowledge of .NET / C# or other compiled-language runtimes (enough to read service code, debug build failures, and triage test failures)
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes / EKS, Helm, or Ansible
  • Experience with mutation testing, code coverage gates, and other advanced quality practices
  • AWS or Kubernetes certifications (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, CKA)
  • Exposure to multi-tenant SaaS platforms or contact-center / customer-experience products
  • Strong ownership mindset with end-to-end responsibility
  • Natural collaborator and mentor with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to influence architecture and best practices across teams
  • Proactive, self-driven, and comfortable operating in ambiguity
  • Global mindset and fluent communication in English

Engineer Senior Software Engineer, Next.JS at The Motley Fool

Builds and maintains server-side Next.js infrastructure, APIs, caching systems, and deployment pipelines for a high-traffic financial website.

Senior Posted about 21 hours ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

Who We Are

The Motley Fool is a purpose-driven financial services company on a mission to make the world smarter, happier, and richer. For 30 years, we’ve been helping people make better investment decisions through transparency, education, and a healthy dose of Foolish fun. We’re a fast-moving, collaborative team that values high-quality work, curiosity, and initiative. We care deeply about what we do, and we’re driven by the impact our work has on real people’s financial futures.

With a growing portfolio of 50+ subscription products, we’re investing heavily in the technology that powers Fool.com — one of the most widely read financial sites on the web — and the systems that turn readers into long-term members.

What Does This Team Do?

The Fool.com team owns the public-facing experience that millions of readers, search engine crawlers, and prospective subscribers hit every day. Today, the team is strong on the client side: we have two excellent front-end engineers shipping interface work. We’re looking for an engineer who can own the server-side and infrastructure layer of the site alongside them.

About the Role

This is a full-stack role with a clear weighting toward the parts of the system that run before pixels reach the browser — API integrations, server-rendered routes, caching, observability, deployment, and the SEO-critical surface that determines how millions of crawler requests resolve. Much of fool.com is server side rendered.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and maintain server-side features in our Next.js App Router codebase using TypeScript — route handlers, server components, server actions, streaming, ISR, and revalidation strategy.
  • Design and harden integrations with the third-party APIs that power our content, market data, and subscription experiences. We care a lot about doing this well: timeouts, retries, circuit breakers, fallbacks, and graceful degradation when upstream services misbehave are first-class concerns, not afterthoughts.
  • Own caching strategy across Redis and Cloudflare, balancing freshness against performance, cost, and crawler behavior.
  • Deploy and operate services on AWS using Docker, with first-class instrumentation in DataDog so we catch issues before our readers and crawlers do.
  • Write meaningful end-to-end coverage with Microsoft Playwright for the flows that matter most.
  • Optimize the site for the way it’s actually consumed by SEO crawlers: rendering strategy, structured data, sitemap generation, canonicalization, hreflang, robots directives, performance budgets, and crawl budget management.
  • Partner with our front-end engineers on the seam between server and client, and collaborate with content, marketing, SEO, and platform teams across the company.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Cursor) as a core part of your daily workflow — we have a company-wide commitment to use the latest tooling and workflows to make every person as impactful as possible.
  • Integrate with our CMS for content management

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with meaningful time spent on the server side of a production web application.
  • Strong TypeScript and Next.js experience, including the App Router, server components, route handlers, ISR, and streaming.
  • Demonstrated track record integrating third-party APIs in production, with clear opinions about how to do it safely. You’ve debugged a flaky upstream at 11pm and you have views about it.
  • Solid grounding in caching (Redis or equivalent) and CDN behavior (Cloudflare or equivalent), including cache invalidation, stale-while-revalidate patterns, and edge vs. origin tradeoffs.
  • Comfort with AWS, Docker, and modern CI/CD workflows.
  • Working knowledge of how SEO crawlers actually see a site: how Googlebot renders JavaScript, what causes soft 404s, how canonical and hreflang tags affect indexing, what Core Web Vitals look like in CrUX vs. lab data, and how to think about crawl budget on a large site.
  • Production observability instincts — you reach for DataDog dashboards, logs, and traces before guessing.
  • Experience writing maintainable end-to-end tests with Playwright, Cypress, or similar.

Bonus Points

  • Background on a high-traffic content, media, or publishing site where SEO is a primary acquisition channel.
  • Hands-on work with structured data (JSON-LD, schema.org), automated sitemaps, Search Console, or auditing tools like Screaming Frog.
  • Familiarity with analytics and event pipelines (Segment, PostHog, GTM, or similar).
  • Prior work on subscription, paywall, or e-commerce flows.
  • Genuine interest in financial markets, investing, or fintech — we’re a company of people who care about this stuff.

Why This Role

You’ll be the person who makes Fool.com faster, safer, and more observable on the side of the wire that most users never see. You’ll work alongside two strong front-end engineers who are eager to have a real partner across the seam, and you’ll do it on a team that takes engineering quality seriously — we’ve recently invested in standardizing error-handling practices around external services, AI-assisted development tooling, and cross-repository coding guidelines.

If you like the parts of full-stack engineering that happen behind the scenes — the integrations, the caching layer, the crawler surface, the dashboards at 2am — we’d love to talk.
